This particular slaughterhouse kills almost 7,000 pigs every day, which is about average given that some U.S. slaughterhouses are at about 11,ooo. It’s staggering. And even moreso once you are looking into their kind, innocent, and helpless eyes, knowing these are there last few moments alive before meeting a gruesome death after having lived a miserable life. It changes you.

In cities all around the world, people from all walks of life are coming out and bearing witness to the transport of cows, pigs, and chickens being taken to the slaughterhouse.

It is a fast-growing worldwide phenomena taking hold, and it’s called the (Animal) Save Movement.

It is a chance to connect with these unfortunate and peaceful souls in their final moments of what has been a wretched life, and that will soon end in a gruesome death. And to let the world know what is going on behind closed doors.

It’s called Bearing Witness.

Leo Tolstoy said it best:

“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him.”
